So, I’ve never done this and I don’t know if anyone will actually do this, but I don’t want to throw this away or anything so I’m going to try a Tumblr Giveaway thing for this Madina Lake -The Dresden Codex poster that’s signed by all the members and was given out to the first 200 people in line at their first show back with Matthew on April 23rd, 2011 at The Metro in Chicago. I also have these bracelets (and a third somewhere) that we got while waiting in line that I can throw in if you want.
Rules, right?:

  • Reblog or like this post, doing both is fine.
  • But only one reblog please.
  • You don’t have to be following me, just make sure your ask box is on.
  • I guess I’ll ship anywhere unless the costs are ridiculous but I’ll figure that out later.

I’ll probably get a poster tube to send it in.
I really don’t know when I’ll end this, maybe November 11. Maybe later than that, it just depends if anyone does this and if I can remember to end it then.

during a perfect storm of challenge, we managed to make Dresden Codex. this EP carries us directly to “word war III” out september, 2011

Chicago rockers Madina Lake will be releasing their third studio album World War III in September. Aside from the new material, the album also features three tracks from their 2010 EP The Dresden Codex, including former single Hey Superstar, which was used as the theme for US wrestling show TNA. The album will be the group’s first since their 2009 LP Attics To Eden. Since then the band went through a period of upheaval that included leaving their former record label Roadrunner Records, under going a change in management and dealing with personal issues. The group hit a low point when in June of 2010, bassist Matthew Leone was hospitalized after he was attacked in a Chicago street. At the time, Matthew was trying to help a woman who was being beaten by her husband, and although Matthew subdued him, the man severely attacked Matthew from behind. Matthew was rushed to hospital in a critical condition, and doctors had to remove one-third of his skull in order to allow the swelling in his brain to go down. Matthew’s life hung in the balance. Today we are happy to report, that Matthew has made a remarkable recovery back to health, and life is slowly returning back to normal for him and the group.

In this exclusive interview with Joe Matera, Matthew Leone discusses his road to recovery, the group’s new studio album and on Madina Lake being labeled a metal band.

While walking in his neighborhood one night last June, Chicago-based Madina Lake bassist Matthew Leone tried to assist a woman who was being assaulted by her husband. During the altercation, the man crushed Leone’s skull. At the hospital, the rocker flatlined three times, underwent two surgeries and had one-third of his skull removed.

Because he didn’t have health insurance, Leone racked up over $200,000 in hospital bills. Leone’s idol Billy Corgan played a benefit show in July 2010 at Chicago’s Metro and raised money for the bills that are luckily almost paid off. Less than a year after the crime, Leone returned to the stage on April 23 and played his first show with the band since last May.

“The way I used to perform was just totally reckless — climb up stuff and fall down — and now since I’m completely inhibited in what I can do physically, I’m going to have to adjust to a whole new performance,” Leone tells Spinner. “That’s fine. I’m sure people will understand.”

Only 2,000 copies of Dresden Codex EP were manufactured and numbered and is now out of print forever.  They were sold on Pledgemusic.com.  We reserved 100 copies, (copies 1900 to 2000) for lost or damaged shipments, that we will now be offering at Metro.  At this show, we will be handing out signed limited edition Dresden posters to the first 200 through the door and will have the remaining merch for the EP available at the booth.  This Is the last chance for any Dresden goods before it is gone forever!

Madina Lake

After nearly a year of recovery, Madina Lake bassist Matthew Leone will join his band onstage for a hometown show on April 23 at the Metro in Chicago. The event marks the first time Leone will play a stateside show with the band since he intervened during a domestic dispute last summer, leaving the bassist in a coma and hospitalized with severe brain trauma.

Madina Lake have not performed together in the U.S. in 10 months, and they will be in support of their new album, Dresden Codex. Super Happy Fun Club, Static Summer and Stay Golden are also on the bill.
